It must be August…Tramlink closures for track relaying

As has become tradition recently August has arrived and London Tramlink services through central Croydon have been suspended to allow for track replacement works to take place. The disruption started from late on Friday 5th August and will be continuing through until Tuesday 16th August. Throughout this period no trams were able to travel along Addiscombe Road between East Croydon and Sandilands with, at various times other sections of the tramway also closed.

From 2100 on Friday 5th August until Sunday 7th August trams from Wimbledon terminated at Reeves Corner with trams also running between Blackhorse Lane and Elmers End/Beckenham Junction. No services ran to New Addington.

Then on Monday 8th and Tuesday 9th August further sections of line reopened which saw trams on the eastern side of the network run from Sandilands to Elmers End/Beckenham Junction/New Addington. Again Wimbledon services were terminated at Reeves Corner.

From Wednesday 10th August until Tuesday 16th August trams from Wimbledon will be extended through to East Croydon with services from the east still terminating at Sandilands with work being concentrated along Addiscombe Road.

[Although this story is discussing trackworks closures – much of which has already taken place – it has been added to British Trams Online as a record of the closure.]
