Child dies at Beamish Museum

As many readers of this website will be aware, a tragic accident occured at Beamish Museum on Sunday 22nd July when a seven year old child died after reportedly falling from a steam road roller. The young boy suffered severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Following the incident the Museum was evacuated whilst a full investigation was carried out by the local Police and the Museum’s own Health & Safety officers. The decision has been taken to re-open as normal on Monday 23rd July although understandably no steam engines will be demonstrated.

Although this story does not directly involve trams, your writer felt that it should be acknowldged here due to our close interest in this Museum, and also as a mark of respect for the child, Karl Doran, who lost his life. British Trams Online extend our sympathies towards Karl’s family and friends, and also to everyone at the Museum who must be struggling to deal with this terrible tragedy.
