Edinburgh Trams to offer ScotRail passengers during disruption

Edinburgh Trams have come to an agreement with ScotRail which will mean at times of disruption on the rail network ticket holders will be able to travel on the tram network free of charge. The tram currently serves the stations at Edinburgh Waverley (St Andrew Square is just a short walk away), Haymarket and Edinburgh Park with the new Edinburgh Gateway interchange to follow at the end of 2016.

When there is disruption on the rail network an announcement will be made by ScotRail at stations and also through social media that passengers can complete their journeys on board the tram. All rail passengers have to do is to show their rail ticket to the onboard Ticketing Services Assistant.

Ian Craig, Chief Executive of Transport for Edinburgh, said: “We are pleased to announce this new partnership with ScotRail as we believe it will be a helpful support to affected passengers. Ours and ScotRail’s commitment is to ensure customers receive the best possible service at all times but on occasion there are external influences that can cause disruption. It’s our hope that by enabling passengers to use their tickets on the trams as well as trains, we will be able to somewhat ease the level of inconvenience caused when trains can’t run as planned.”
