In Pictures: Midland Metro Birmingham City Centre extension works

No sooner had Midland Metro services stopped running into the original Snow Hill terminus workmen entered the site and started to dismantle 16 years of history. The overhead wires were swiftly removed and some track has also been lifted as attention is shifted towards connecting the extension to the current line just south of St Paul’s stop. Overhead gone, track severed. The scene on the old Midland Metro route - 28th October.

A look towards Snow Hill with the overhead now gone.

A look at the new line alongside the old.

A close-up of the severed track.

What is the future for the old terminus platform area? Will it be returned to Network Rail use or will it be reconnected for stabling/emergency use?
