NET Phase Two works continue

Utility diversion work is due to commence on Abbey Street in Lenton next week with motorists being advised to either avoid the area or expect delays. Abbey Street is one of the main routes into Nottingham and so the utility diversion work is expected to cause major disruption for up to a year.

Initial preparation work has been taking place this weekend with the main work starting from Monday 9th July. During the preparation work the junction with Gregory Street will be closed and once the main work gets underway lane restrictions will be in place.

Martin Carroll, Project Director for Taylor Woodrow Alstom, said: “We recognise that Abbey Street/Abbey Bridge is a very busy through-route for traffic from the south-west heading in and out of the city, and we will do all that we can to minimise disruption while these works take place. But motorists who travel through the area are advised to allow extra time or, where possible, considering utilising alternative routes.”

Abbey Street will be part of the line to Beeston and Chilwell which is due to open in 2014 along with the other part of phase two which will run to Clifton.
