New Programme Director for Midland Metro

Centro have appointed Phil Hewitt as Midland Metro Programmes Director in replacing Paul Griffiths who has moved to the HS2 project. Mr Hewitt is a name well known to UK tram circles having recently been Executive Chairman of Tramlink Nottingham and also being involved in several roles at Croydon Tramlink between 2000 and 2013.

Phil Hewitt will be leading the Metro project team as the line prepares to open its extension through Birmingham City Centre to New Street station by the end of this year. There are also other extension plans currently in the planning that Mr Hewitt will be heavily involved in.

Phil Hewitt commented: “The ambition of the West Midlands and the Centro team to develop the Metro network as the heart of the region’s strategy for integrated transport will deliver the next big success story for light rail in the UK. Under Paul’s leadership the Metro has made major advances and I am looking forward to supporting the team as they turn the vision for the network’s future into a reality”.
