Public Exhibitions for Metrolink Manchester Airport extension

Transport for Greater Manchester are holding a series of informal drop in sessions for
people to find out more about the Metrolink extension to Manchester Airport which is due to open in 2016. Work on utility diversions for this line commenced in 2010 and main construction work is now also starting to take place.

The drop in sessions will take place as follows:

Monday 9th July: The Forum, Wythenshawe Town Centre – 1600-1900

Wednesday 11th July: Brooklands Library, Moor Road – 1600-1900

Monday 16th July: The Manchester College, Hollyhedge Road – 1600-1900

Wednesday 18th July: Chorlton High School, Mauldeth Road West – 1600-1900

At each session representatives from both TfGM and MPT will be on hand to answer any questions about the construction of the line which will leave the South Manchester line shortly after the St Werburgh’s Road stop.

i don’t understand why the airport exstention cannot open by early 2015. the new lines in nottingham seem to have overtaken the manchester airport .

The Metrolink extensions are being constructed to a phased programme. This avoids having all the lines requiring the same resources at the same time. This keeps the construction costs down by keeping a steady workflow for the contractor. Also they were authorised at different times. Finally the Airport Line will rely on the Second City Crossing being available as the existing route is unlikely to be able to cope with another line.
