Record breakers need dedication apparently and that is exactly what Adham Fisher has in abundance as he prepares to break the current record for travelling to all the stops on Manchester Metrolink. The current record stands at six hours, 27 minutes and one second and on Friday 4th September Adham will try and break this record.
Adham Fisher has held the record for visiting all stations on the New York Subway (22 hours, 26 minutes and two second since you asked) and has previously visited all stops on Manchester Metrolink but that was before the Airport line opened so he is again making the journey from his Leicester home to Manchester to try and set a new record.
I am not being picky, but what exactly constitutes a “visit”? Is it riding the route, physically getting off at each stop and then back on the same tram, or does it “count” simply sitting there and ticking off as you go? Equally, does he have to remain on the system? So can he go to Bury and do a bus to Rochdale or go to Ashton and taxi round the M60 to East Didsbury? If it has to be steel wheel on rail, can he get on a train at the Airport and travel to East Didsbury or train from the Airport back into the City Centre? I do believe that some of the people who do the Underground in London run between some of the stations. So, if anybody knows, what are the rules?
I might do that with my mother.
Tube Challenge Rules
To ‘visit’ a station, you must arrive and/or depart by an underground train in normal public service. It is necessary for a through train to stop at the station for the visit to count, although you do not need to get out. This has some consequences: It’s not possible to attempt the challenge at the weekend (some stations are closed) and care must be taken in planning the route because not all stations are open at all times of the day.
It is not necessary to cover every stretch of track, so for example the Waterloo and City line is often missed out altogether because Waterloo and Bank are typically visited whilst on other lines.
You are allowed to exit the underground system and travel by bus or on foot. So a tube challenger reaching the end of the Northern line at Morden may well get out and travel overland to Wimbledon entering the District line there. Taxis, cars, bikes, etc, are not allowed.
Physically separate stations, which are not linked, but have the same name must all be visited. Thus Edgware Road, Hammersmith, and Paddington will be visited twice, each time on a different line.

I am surprised he has decided to attempt the record while the single line working is in place at St Peters.Surely this will hinder his progress and then there’s the usual points failure at cornbrook. But not one to put the dampers on it I wish him the best of luck in his challenge.
