New platform set to open at Deansgate-Castlefield

The transformation of Manchester Metrolink’s Deansgate-Castlefield stop is now starting to reach a conclusion with the new outbound platform due to be opened from Tuesday 2nd June. Trams for Altrincham, East Didsbury, MediaCityUK and Eccles will use this new platform again instead of the central island platform with inbound trams continuing to use the island platform facing Manchester Central.

Then from Monday 8th June the newly modernised exhibition footbridge linking the stop with the nearby Deansgate railway station will reopen to passengers. The steps linked to the exhibition footbridge and Deansgate station ramp will reopen on Tuesday 16th June.

Further work will commence on Monday 8th June when the existing steps at First Street will close to allow final upgrade works. They will temporarily reopen during the work this summer at St Peter’s Square before the new lift and steps at the Deansgate end of the stop and steps at the Albion Street end open later this summer.

The work at Deansgate-Castlefield has been part of the major transformation around the city centre and will now allow more flexibility in services terminating here.
