Man airlifted to hospital after being hit by tram

A 22 year old man was airlifted to hospital after being hit by a Midland Metro tram on Bilston Road between Priestfield and The Royal on Thursday 1st January. The pedestrian was knocked unconscious in the incident, which happened at 0830, but according to the local ambulance service did not have any further noticeable injuries. Tram services were terminated at Priestfield whilst the man was treated at the scene before he was taken to hospital. Normal operations resumed from 1030. An investigation has been launched into the incident.

    Thoughts also should go out to the poor driver of the tram involved in this accident. While there is an investigation this driver may not be able to work due to a person using wrong place to cross the road.

    If it is found out to be the person knock down at fault they should be charged with jaywalking.
