New Blackpool tram book “Starr Gate to the Tower” set to be launched

A new Blackpool tram book by acclaimed writer Brian Turner is set to be launched before the launch of Balloon 701 on Friday 26th September at the Blackpool Tram Shop – providing that copies arrive there in time! Brian will be at the shop between 1530 and 1615 to sign copies before 701’s maiden trip following the completion of its repaint.

“Starr Gate to the Tower: The Blackpool Tramway since 1960 Volume One” is one of the first titles to be released under Capital Transport’s new Rails imprint for non-London railway and tram titles. The book features 400 photographs – nearly all of them colour – which show how the Blackpool tramway developed from a precarious survivor in 1960 into the age of the Supertram. This first volume covers the section of tramway between Starr Gate and Tower with the remainder of the route due to be covered in the future.

The book was scheduled to arrive at the publishers warehouse this week and there should be copies at the Blackpool Tram Shop by Friday but you are advised to check beforehand if making a specific journey for the book.
