In Pictures: Edinburgh Trams – out of the city centre

Last week we bought you a full Photo Gallery featuring Edinburgh Trams (if you haven’t seen them yet and want to you can find them at http://www.britishtramsonline.co.uk/gallery478.html). The locations included were limited to in and around the city centre but we can now bring you a photographic feature with more shots of the trams but this time moving out of the city centre and onto the remainder of the line. With thanks to John Hampton for providing these photos.

The only tramstop on the line with a lift is at Murrayfield.

271 at Murrayfield about to depart with a service for the city.

An unidentified tram on the grass covered tracks heading towards the city and the viaduct at Edinburgh Park station. The Pentland Hills are just visible on the skyline.

One of only two trams in the unbranded livery, 269. heads towards the city on what was originally part of the guided busway. The concrete base of the busway was left in place and the tracks laid on top.

253 heads towards the city having just left Edinburgh Park.

255 leaves the Edinburgh Park viaduct over the railway and is about to enter the tramstop on its way to the city. The Novotel hotel in the background is the venue for the 2014 Light Rail Transit Association AGM. Delegates with rooms on the north side of the building will have good views of the trams! 1. John Gilbert says:

It was very good to ride on the new system in Edinburgh a few weeks ago. However I am puzzled at the apparent fuss the vehicles make whenever they go around curves of any sharpness. There is a real grinding and groaning as this manoeuvre is performed, and I sampled several different trams. (I have noticed the same thing in Nottingham when the original vehicles go around the sharp curve to access the reserved track near Wilkinson Street depot.)
