Picture in Time 22: Seaton Tramway 7

We take another visit to the Seaton Tramway for the latest edition of our archive photo series: Picture in Time. This time we catch up with no. 7, a tram which is currently withdrawn from service awaiting an overhaul but this photo shows the tram during happier times, probably 1983, when it was still an integral part of the operating fleet.

No. 7 was built in 1958 and was made to the same design as no. 6 although had the saloons at each end of the lower deck from new. The tram was regauged in 1976 to fit the new gauge at Seaton (having not run since the operation closed in Eastbourne at the end of 1969) and ran in service regularly until 2007 when it was withdrawn for an overhaul to take place. Although it is believed some work has been undertaken on the tram during the intervening years it remains stored at the back of the depot still requiring a significant amount of attention before it can rejoin the operational pool of cars.

This photo shows 7 at Seaton with the mobile shop, 01, for company in approximately 1983.
