Progress continues on NET Phase Two

The next six weeks are to see major road resurfacing works at the junction of Queens Road East and University Boulevard as the tram construction works here approach a conclusion. The tram tracks at this location have now been laid and it is now necessary to complete the resurfacing of the new traffic light controlled junction which will mostly take place at night to try and minimise the impact on the public although some daytime works will also be necessary.

The works will commence from Monday 4th August and temporary traffic lights will be in place throughout the works and the lane restrictions currently in place off-peak will remain active, Although most work will be overnight it will be necessary for there to be further restrictions during the final week of the works.

Paul Harris, Programme Director for NET Phase Two construction contractor, Taylor Woodrow Alstom, said: “The work is necessary in order to complete alterations to the junction and bring it properly back into use. The tram tracks have already been laid and now we need to carry out significant re-surfacing work and complete the new junction layout over the next five to six weeks. Although the works will mainly take place during the night, towards the end of the works there will be further restrictions for up to a one week period. It is a demanding programme involving around 40 different traffic changes throughout the six week period. During the later stages there will need to be various temporary lane closures and a weekend closure of the junction in order to finish the work. We’ll be able to provide further details about these restrictions nearer the time in order to let motorist plan their journeys.”

It was recently announced that the works to build Phase Two of Nottingham Express Transit are running behind schedule and the opening of lines 2 and 3 will be delayed until early 2015.
