Variotram 2555 enters passenger service

The second of the Variotrams being built for London Tramlink has entered passenger
service. 2555 was used in service for the first time on Thursday 12th April running from Therapia Lane to East Croydon and then two circuits of the town loop before returning to
Therapia Lane.

2554 also continues to see passenger service with this tram believed to have now reached New Addington with passengers on board (previously the Variotrams had only run in non-passenger tests east of East Croydon). It is expected that the next step in the continued acceptance of these trams will be the entry into passenger service on both the Elmers End and Beckenham Junction lines, with this likely in the next few weeks.

The only other Variotram currently in the UK – 2556 – has not yet been seen out of Therapia Lane – unless you know any differently! The Transport for London plan is thought still to be for the introduction of Line 4 between Elmers End and Therapia Lane in June.
