Was in Bury on Saturday for the East Lancs Railway event on Saturday and spotted the T68A’s so managed to grab some photos. Is there use on these shuttles to be regular….while they last?
The 2 T68As have been retained for use on the shuttle. In particular 2001 which had so much attention given to it’s rewiring a couple of years ago is now recording high mileages between failures and both are seen as having potential for further service at least till the end of the Victoria project. One of them, I think it was 2003, even underwent a bogie change not so long ago to ensure its tyres had sufficient life in them to last through the job. One of the withdrawn T68As donated a bogie for the purpose. Andy Coward’s book Superb gives more detail of the background about 2001.
Thank you for the info. Assume the A68A’s will be in use Mondays to Saturdays but what about Sundays? Think another visit maybe needed.
Living In radcliffe and using the system everyday , when the shuttle system first started 2001/003 were hardly in service, this last week they have been out nearly every day. However the last 3 days of service have been blighted by a continual failure of the points at Bury. Why Metrolink having run so well so far in the blockade let themselves down so much is beyond me.
They have to remember that people only see that they are inconvenienced already with the blockade and to add further problems will lead to greater discontent.
I commute just after 8 and after Prestwich many are left behind on the platforms as regrettably the service can not cope. Perhaps they should consider bus replacement from Abraham Moss into the town centre as well as the existing services.
