Final phase of NET Phase Two works to start in Clifton

The final sections of construction work to extend Nottingham Express Transit to Clifton via Wilford are expected to start on Sunday 2nd February. The works will start on Southchurch Drive and Farnborough Road and are expected to take six months to complete.

The works currently being undertaken on Southchurch Drive between Farnborough Road and Rivergreen and from Swansdowne Drive and Green Lane are approaching completion and once they are over through traffic will be reinstated to these sections including bus services.

The last sections of work will take place on Southchurch Drive between Rivergreen and Swansdowne Drive, between Green Lane and Whitegate Vale and between Whitegate Vale and Holy Trinity and also on Farnborough Road between Holy Trinity and Summerwood Lane and from Summerwood Lane to the junction of Clifton Lane and Nottingham Road.

The works on these sections will include the diversion of utility services, installing the tram tracks and constructing the tram stops and will mean that the roads affected will either be completely closed to traffic or temporary traffic lights will be installed to aid traffic flow.

Two information sessions are due to take place in Clifton during January to inform local residents of what to expect. These will be on Thursday 23rd January between 1500 and 1700 at Holy Trinity Church and on Monday 27th January between 1700 and 1900 at Clifton Cornerstone.

Cllr Jane Urquhart, Nottingham City Council’s Portfolio Holder for Planning and Transport, said: “It’s great to see the progress being made in Clifton as the tram extension project heads into the final stages of construction. The extended tram route will greatly enhance Clifton centre as well as improving its connections with the city centre and beyond to bring new inward investments to the area.”
