We’re back on the Blackpool Tramway for this edition of “Old and New” where we see a heritage tram and a modern tram at the same place. In this edition we take a look at Pharos Street in Fleetwood.

The “Old” in this image gives us two trams for the price of one on 4th September 2007 with trams heading back to Blackpool on a Fleetwood Market Tuesday. At the front is Centenary 648 which is working a service to Pleasure Beach and has already called at the Pharos Street stop which was the first stop after the Fleetwood Ferry terminus (which, of course, in those days was on Fleetwood Esplanade with Bold Street just being for unloading). The Centenary Car carries an advertising livery for Vue Cinema in Cleveleys. Immediately behind the tram is Rebuilt Balloon 709 which is working a timetabled service to Starr Gate. 709 has an advert for Sealife and is about to stop at the stop where some passengers are waiting to head back south.

Same place, different class of tram and a modernised tramway. This was taken on 27th September 2024 and shows Flexity2 002 which is working a service to Fleetwood Ferry via North Station (as all trams were running at that time according to the timetable). The historic shelter is still in place (although not in a great condition) but no-one has been able to board a timetabled main service tram here since 2009 when the section of tramway in Fleetwood was closed for the upgrade.
