We bring you another edition of “Old and New” featuring two photos – one of a heritage tram and one of a modern Flexity2 tram operating in Blackpool at the same location. Today its Fisherman’s Walk.

This first shot was taken on 5th September 2006 and shows Twin Car 674+684 as it approaches Fisherman’s Walk with a full length timetabled journey to Starr Gate. Set 4 was one of the five Twin Cars which enjoyed a renaissance when double deckers were banned from running to Fleetwood because of the state of the track. It received the Cadbury blue and yellow Metro Coastlines livery and still includes the traditional destination blinds. Its also running trailer first.

Trams continue to run on the same alignment today and here we see Flexity2 011 also approaching Fisherman’s Walk as it laves Lord Street – and street running. Fleetwood doesn’t look particularly busy in this 2nd June 2022 view as the tram is at the start of its journey south, with this being pre-North Station it will go all the way directly to Starr Gate.
