Out and About: Tyne and Wear Metro – New trains in service

We go “Out and About” once more and this time northeast England is the location.

The takeover on the Tyne and Wear Metro by the new trains (built by Stadler in Switzerland) is continuing with the continued withdrawal and move for scrapping of the original trains which have provided service in the northeast for over 40 years. With more and more of the Stadler built trains in service, or on test, scenes such as this have become more regular – new trains side-by-side. Taken at North Shields here we see 555 038 working to St James as it passes 555 021 which is out of service and being used on test/training. (Photograph by Simon Robinson, 27th November 2025)
