Metrolink delays after tram hit by car in Oldham

Manchester Metrolink services on the Oldham and Rochdale line were suspended for a time on the morning of Saturday 8th November after unit heading to Shaw and Crompton was hit by a car.

The Volkswagen car  – which had earlier been involved in a Police chase, although Greater Manchester Police confirmed that they had stopped the chase before the collision because of the riskto other road users – hit the side of 3093 at the Oldham Way flyover, located close to the Oldham King Street tramstop.

Two men, aged 22 and 24, were arrested at the scene on the suspicion of failing to stop and dangerous driving. The 22 year old was also arrested on suspicion of possession of class A drugs.

The incident happened just after 1000 and until shortly before 1230 services from East Didsbury were terminated at Westwood whilst those from Rochdale turned at Derker.
