The Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) have started an investigation into an incident which occurred at Crossacres tramstop on 7th October 2025. This well reported incident saw a 11 year old boy become trapped between the platform and a departing tram suffering life-changing injuries as a result.
The notification of the investigation confirms that the incident happened at around 1537 on 7th October 2025 and that the boy was dragged along the platform for around 15-20 metres.
The investigation will seek to identify the sequence of events which led to the accident and will also consider the actions of those involved and anything which may have influenced them, the arrangements in place to manage and control the risks associated with dispatching trams from tram stops, arrangements in place to manage and control the risks associated with running tram trams coupled together, the management of the staff involved including their training and competence, and any relevant underlying factors.
The 11 year old boy remains in intensive care in an induced coma after having two surgeries and is expected to be in theatre again.
