In Pictures: Double Blackpool Railcoaches at Carlton Colville

Blackpool Brush Railcoach 634 and Blackpool Marton VAMBAC 11 were the two trams paired together to operate services at the East Anglia Transport Museum, Carlton Colville on Sunday 21st September 2025. 634 has spent periods out of service during 2025 so the two haven’t operated together a huge amount recently but as these photos show the two Blackpool single-deckers were back in service together once more. Bryan Grint with the photos.

Chapel Road terminus with the two trams together. 634 is owned by the Fylde Transport Trust and is on loan at Carlton Colville whilst 11 is part of the permanent collection at the museum. Whilst both trams have similarities patents meant that as one was built by Brush and the other by English Electric they differ in basically every single way.

11 had its blinds set to Central Station and here we see it passing Lowestoft Corporation AEC Swift bus no. 4. The bus also has its blinds set to Central Station although the two would have been heading to two stations over 300 miles apart in their day!

A view into the cab of 634 as it waits at Chapel Road.

The two trams – 11 and 634 – are joined at Chapel Road by Maidstone trolleybus 52 (which was originally operated by Brighton Corporation). (All Photographs by Bryan Grint, 21st September 2025)
