Out and About 2025: Manchester Metrolink – Ashton line July 2025

Another edition of “Out and About” and we’re off to Manchester Metrolink as we take a look at some operations on the Ashton line whilst it was severed from the rest of the network owing to trackworks in the city centre.

During the length blockade from 3rd June until 10th August services were only able to run between Piccadilly and Etihad Campus/Ashton with a selection of trams being based on the line to allow this to happen (they were able to switched over on a couple of occasions). In this view we look through the driver’s windscreen of a tram as 3098 passes. We’re just by the Aldi superstore at Ashton with the tram terminus not far away for 3098.

This shot shows 3116 stopping at Velopark with a service to Ashton. On the left we see the stadium used by Manchester City ladies.

Spare trams were stabled during the day at Piccadilly Stadium undercroft. This view has 3064 waiting until its used next. (All Photographs by Reece Hughes, 19th July 2025)
