Music on a tram on the West Midlands Metro returns

Normally when you hear music on a tram it probably means someone needs to turn down their personal devices as they don’t realise that the whole tram wants to listen to what they do! But on Thursday 24th July it will be a different situation as the City of Birmingham Orchestra will be performing on a tram as part of their “CBSO in the City” event.

The idea behind the event is that the orchestra move away from their concert hall and go out to engage with diverse new audiences. Starting from Wednesday 23rd July the CBSO will be performing at locations including New Street railway station (which will include the chance for the public to conduct them!), the Library at Birmingham, Black Country Living Museum and Birmingham Botanical Gardens. Plus, of course, they will perform on board a tram (exact service to be confirmed) as it heads to Wolverhampton.

The tram performance will be on Thursday 24th July from 1400. The exact service is to be announced on CBSO’s social media on the day as it will depend on any timetable changes.

Michael Reading-Skilton, West Midlands Metro Head of Commercial, said: “We’re proud to support CBSO in the City again this year. Last summer’s performances gave our customers a fresh perspective on their journeys, transforming daily commutes into unforgettable musical moments. We’re thrilled to help deliver another uplifting experience that shines a light on Birmingham’s exceptional musical talent.”
