Overhead issue causes disruption on Eccles line

Manchester Metrolink services between MediaCityUK and Eccles were suspended from the afternoon of Friday 18th July after an issue with the overhead line.

Reports have said that a tram got its pantograph tangled in the overhead line at Weaste. Whether the overhead was damaged before the tram came along is not known but the end result was that the overhead wire was said to have “snapped”.

No trams ran between MediaCityUK and Eccles following the incident with the already revised service running from Victoria to MediaCityUK only. Reports at the time said this would be the situation until at least the end of service on 18th July.
