There are to be more works on the South Yorkshire Supertram this summer as the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) continues to invest in improving the network. This time the work will affecting the Blue and Purple routes between Monday 28th July and Friday 15th August.
During this 19 day period, a number of works will be completed, including:
- Track renewal on Ridgeway Road between Manor Top and Hollinsend tramstops
- Track renewal on Norfolk Park Viaduct (between Granville Road and Park Grange Croft tramstops)
- Replacing rail sealing polymer near Park Grange tramstop
As is often the case when works take place on this section of line the PURPLE route will be suspended throughout the period whilst the BLUE route will operate a revised service:
- Malin Bridge to Sheffield Station at normal frequencies (up to every 12 minutes)
- Halfway to Gleadless Townend (up to every 15 minutes)
A replacement bus service (BP1) will run between Fitzalan Square and Herdings Park with passengers advised to change onto this at Fitzalan Square and Gleadless Townend to complete their journeys. This will run up to every 15 minutes.
Both the YELLOW route and TRAM-TRAIN service will run as normal.
The work has been timed to start after the Tramlines Festival which will take place at Hillsborough Park from Friday 25th to Saturday 27th July.
During the Tramlines Festival a revised service will be running on the BLUE and YELLOW routes between 2130-2300 on Friday 25th and Saturday 26th, and 2030-2200 on Sunday 28th:
- Services from Halfway and Meadowhall will terminate at Shalesmoor for safety reasons and due to road closures
- Event special trams will leave from Leppings Lane only towards the city centre. There will be no service at Middlewood, Lepping Lane (Middlewood direction), Hillsborough Park, Malin Bridge, Hillsborough Interchange, Bamforth Street, Langsett/Primrose View and Infirmary Road.
A spokesperson from South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority said: “These works are part of SYMCA’s ongoing investment in Supertram. By scheduling works over the summer and school holidays when the tram network has lower passenger numbers, we hope to minimise any passenger and traffic disruption and keep people moving while this work progresses.
“We have successfully completed work recently on sections of track in Birley, Hillsborough, Gleadless and Langsett Road. By investing in the Supertram system, we’re increasing the longevity of the region’s tram network and ensuring the safe operation of this popular service for the millions of people who use it every year.”
