After a three month trial period, West Midlands Metro have confirmed that a 15% discount for patients and their families who have to go to Birmingham Women’s and Children’s Hospital will be extended for a further three months.
The discount was launched in April and since then staff at the hospital as well as patients/families have been able to benefit from a 15% reduction in the cost of trips to the UK’s leading specialist paediatric centre. The discount covers fares for all Metro zones and a host of ticket options, including weekly and monthly passes.
Michael Reading-Skilton, Metro’s Head of Commercial, said: “Over the past few months, the deal has proved to be beneficial with patients, their families and staff who can also take advantage of the discount. We understand that hospital visits can be stressful for families, so we’re pleased to offer a little help by providing them with convenient and more affordable travel options to make things a little easier.
“At the same time, we want to recognise the dedication of staff at the hospital, and we’re delighted that so many of them are choosing the tram to get to and from work and hope that even more will take advantage of this offer.”
To access the discount, a QR code can be obtained in the hospitals and this can be scanned to generate an exclusive code for use on the MyMetro app. Bull Street tramstop is a short walk from the hospital making it an ideal and hassle free way to get there.
