We have one last picture from the summer of 1994 in Manchester in this latest outing for “Picture in Time”.
1025 ‘Christie Metro Challenger’ pauses at G-MEX with an inbound service heading for Bury. The turquoise image of the time is very apparent and the bare two platform station is unrecognisable when compared with today’s three platform Deansgate-Castlefield stop (the renaming took place in 2010) with its yellow look and extensive platform canopies.
1025 is another tram which is now scrapped. It entered service on 26th May 1992 before withdrawn came over 20 years later on 16th January 2013. After storage it would then leave Trafford Depot on the back of a low loader to Rotherham, the date of that move being 24th September 2014.
The platform occupied by 1025 in this picture is now where the line towards the far side of the current Inbound island platform, although the Outbound platform remains as part of the modernised Deansgate Castlefield.
