As is probably widely known amongst readers of this website, all 37 trams which operate on the Nottingham Express Transit system carry names. Many of these are named after famous local figures, some of whom have come to national prominence and others who have done things for the local community. Usually each year one tram has space reserved for a Community Hero and this year, local media website Nottinghamshire Live has teamed up with NET to find the latest recipient.
They are looking for nominations of people who have made a lasting impact in the local community, whether this is through kindness, leading change, activism, or a commitment to the city.
Alison Sweeney, Head of Marketing at NET, said: “Naming our trams has always been our favourite way to honour local heroes from Nottingham. Often, these are people who have gone on to have remarkable achievements, whether that’s through sport, the arts, or by changing culture or history.
“Alongside this, as a core transport operator for the city, we understand the importance of our local community, and we know there are so many people making such a difference to Nottingham.
“The new ‘community hero’ tram is a chance to recognise those people, and we need the help of locals to discover who we should shine a light on next. It’s a very exciting opportunity and we can’t wait to see who the people of Nottingham nominate.”
Nominations can be made online by visiting https://xd.wayin.com/display/container/dc/381d69f4-912b-48ef-8178-bba546acd240/entry and entering details of who should be considered.
Following nominations they will go through a consideration process before a shortlist is presented to a panel of judges to choose the winner. The winning name will then be added to a tram which will be carried for a year.
