The vital role behavioural science has played in the development of a national pedestrian safety campaign has been highlighted in a new podcast by the Light Rail and Safety Standards Board.
The “Two Lines = STOP” campaign has recently been expanded to include Manchester Metrolink and the latest edition of “Let’s Talk Light Rail” focusses on the research behind the initiative that aims to reduce collisions between pedestrians and trams.
The podcast features Joanna Brown from Minefield, the company that carried out a series of observational studies on behalf of the LRSSB. She is in conversation with Carly Swift, LRSSB Marketing and Digital Media Manager, and explains how the findings of the research shaped the campaign’s key messages and informed graphics designed to influence the behaviour of people when close to tram tracks.
Jamie Swift, LRSSB Head of Commercial Projects, is also on the podcast where he outlines the wider context of the campaign and the positive response to initial trials in Edinburgh and Blackpool.
