Another edition of “Around the World in Trams” features a photo of a tram from Budapest in Hungary.
Think Eastern Europe and you would probably immediately think of trams built by Tatra in what was then Czechoslovakia with many systems across the region having their products. Whilst the T3 is their most famous model (with almost 14,000 built) they did also produce other trams and for Budapest that was the T5C5, a single car tram. 322 of these were built between 1978 and 1984.
This photo shows 4154 which entered service in 1980 and does remain serviceable to this day although unlike many of the class it has not seen extensive refurbishment work. Its seen here in this aerial photo as the rear tram of a double unit and behind we see more modern vehicles as well as the ubiquitous McDonald’s!
