Manchester Metrolink Then & Now: Edge Lane

Just before we take a brief break from “Manchester Metrolink Then & Now” we have time for one more set of photos.

We switch lines again for this edition as we go onto the East Manchester Line of Metrolink. We are in the vicinity of the stop at Edge Lane on Ashton New Road for these images. Officially opening to the public on 11th February 2013 its served by trams heading to and from Ashton-under-Lyne and features an island platform.

18th February 2010 and whilst there is some work here there is little indication of how things will drastically change in the next three years. We look eastwards in this photo.

It’s a completely different picture on 5th March 2024 with the Edge Lane stop now in place on the right of this image. The road layout has been changed as well which makes it look very different between the then and now images. (Both Photographs by Keith Chadbourne)
