Around the World in Trams: Valenciennes 02

On the last day of August it’s the last of our random locations for “Around the World in Trams”.

And we are in France this time and the city of Valenciennes. Opening in 2006, since 2014 there have been two lines in operation. This photo was taken on 21st September 2007 and shows Alstom Citadis 302 tram no. 02 making the stop at Gare working a service from Espace Villars to Universite. They initially had 21 of these trams with a further nine being ordered for the extension.

Always think the Citadis are very smart trams. Amazes me the variety of different cab styles on this tram. To my mind the original Luas trams are the most stylish.

I’m puzzled. This does look like Valenciennes Gare. The tram crosses the river and railway on Pont Jacob then drops down to the Gare and on along city streets. It does not go under a bridge. It must another location

This photo has the wrong description. It is actually tram No 01 leaving the stop a Taffin, Denain with a service from Universite to Espace Villars.
