Siemens Mobility receives Edinburgh Trams infrastructure maintenance contract extension

Siemens Mobility (in a joint consortium with Bilfinger UK) has been awarded an eleven year contract extension for the maintenance of infrastructure on the Edinburgh Trams network. The contract – worth £44.7 million – will now continue until 2035 following agreement.

This includes the continuous maintenance of the overhead line, the track, SCADA and signalling systems which allows Edinburgh Trams to continue to operate safe and reliable services.

The contract extension will help to support 22 jobs and new apprenticeships. This includes some new roles which will be created as part of this new deal.

Sambit Banerjee, Joint CEO of Siemens Mobility, said: “We have operated in close collaboration with Edinburgh Trams Ltd including the network extension, and we are delighted to be partnering with them for another eleven years. This is a real testament to the team who have worked so hard over the last 10 years to offer the best service to maintain the Tram infrastructure in Edinburgh.”

Lea Harrison, Edinburgh Trams Managing Director, said: “For the past decade, we have worked closely with Siemens Mobility to deliver a world-class service to our growing number of customers. This continued partnership will be vital as we build on our undoubted success to date.”

Siemens Mobility have held the contract to maintain the tram network since line 1 opening in 2014.
