Fleetwood Tram Sunday cancelled – and then its not!

A week may be a long time in politics but it also looks like a few days is a very long time in organising community based events! The Fleetwood Festival of Transport – aka Tram Sunday – was abruptly cancelled due to a lack of volunteers and then just a few days later it was all back on after a new event committee was formed.

Although the event is far from the tram spectacle it once was when first taking place in 1985 and the immediate years following this, it has still included trams in recent years with a couple of static exhibits provided by Blackpool Heritage Tram Tours and tram tours running as far as Fisherman’s Walk (the years of trams being allowed to run along the streets whilst the event takes place are long gone).

In recent years it has become more a community event with attractions for all the family including fairground rides, but has still provided a useful boost to the economy of Fleetwood for one day in July.

The 2023 event was cancelled the day before it was due to take place because of a poor weather forecast of strong winds (which proved to be inaccurate).

A new committee has now been formed with new directors being appointed to the Board. They are now working out the logistics of holding the event and are looking for new volunteers to assist with organisation and on the day.

Its planned that the event will take place on Sunday 21st July. More details on how to volunteer at https://tramsunday.co.uk/.
