London Trams revised service confirmed

As we reported a few weeks ago there is to be significant engineering works on the London Trams network which will necessitate a partial closure of the system for approximately four weeks from Friday 29th March 2024. The initial information on the TfL website was a little unclear of what service would be able to run but posters at stops and updated info on the website has now made this clearer.

Starting from Friday 29th March and due to carry on until Wednesday 24th April there are two main locations that work will be taking place. These are at East Croydon and Sandilands Junction where various crossovers and points will be attended to.

The works will mean that the only tram services to run will be:

  • Wimbledon to Wellesley Road
  • George Street to Wimbledon

This means that trams from Wimbledon will terminate at Wellesley Road before pulling forward out of service to use the crossover on George Street (which was replaced in the last closure). They will then reverse towards the stop at George Street where they will recommence their journey back to Wimbledon.

Replacement buses will run:

  • East Croydon to New Addington
  • East Croydon to Beckenham Junction/Elmers End

  1. Alan Holmewood says:

Last time they did something like this there was a temporary platform in George Street just short of Dingwall Road with cars unloading and loading there before departing over the crossover I wonder why it’s considered too difficult (or too much trouble) to repeat this.
