Around the World in Trams: Bendigo 18

Today’s “Around the World in Trams” continues with its look at trams in Bendigo.

The below photos shows no. 18 as it arrives at the Joss House terminus when operating the Bendigo Talking Tram Tour. Built in 1914 as an E class tram by Duncan and Fraser of Adelaide it originally operated for the Prahran and Malvern Tramways Trust carrying the number 45. It moved on to Bendigo in 1951 when it was renumbered 18 and then in 2001 it would operate in Ballarat with a special gold livery commemorating the 150th anniversary of the discovery of gold in Victoria. A return to Bendigo came in 2005, ten years later it became the Anzac Centenary Tram and it remained as this until 2019. After this it was returned to normal service on the Bendigo system.

At the time of this photo the tram was still numbered 18 but has since returned to carrying the number 45.
