Picture in Time: Blackpool Balloon 720

Another edition of “Picture in Time” comes from the Blackpool Tramway.

The current set of photos we’re featuring from Donald Brooks were taken as he took a walk between Lord Street, Fleetwood and Broadwater. Now we’re not saying that the progress of trams in the centre of Fleetwood was slow but we’re now at Ash Street and have beaten the tram that was photographed last time further into Fleetwood so we get 720 in the frame again!

On this day 720 was working on duty 22 and is heading south to Starr Gate. What’s of note here is that the lower deck is much more popular than the upper deck (possibly an indication of the cliental wanting to go to Blackpool, possibly having been to Fleetwood Market?).

This is Ash Street as it was and before it was remodelled and became Fisherman’s Walk. The Frances Mary Lofthouse memorial clocktower, which is now such a prominent feature in the area, was not built until the 1990s. The travel agency seen in the background was most recently a shop known as Most Wanted.
