Manchester Metrolink Then & Now: Cambrian Street

It is time for another edition of “Manchester Metrolink Then & Now” and this time the during construction and once trams were running images come from Cambrian Street on the East Manchester Line.

Both of the below photos are taken from the Cambrian Street bridge which crosses over the Metrolink line as it runs between Holt Town and Ethihad Campus at the city end of the East Manchester Line which, of course, ends up at Ashton-under-Lyne.

We look northeast in these two photos and this first one was taken on 7th March 2010 – just under three years before the first trams would run in service along this alignment.

Then on 18th July 2023 and 3116 is seen working a service to Weaste (trams weren’t going to Eccles due to trackworks) in the same location. The main point of connection to allow us to tell it’s the same location is the pathway on the right which remains in situ. (Both Photographs by Keith Chadbourne)
