Trams &: Edinburgh Trams 258 & cruise ship

Throughout this series we have featured trams both heritage and modern alongside other forms of transport, more often than not its been a bus but we think this might be a first as it’s a tram along with a cruise ship!

One of the big pluses from a photography point of view of the Trams to Newhaven extension in Edinburgh is that for part of the route the trams skirt alongside the water at Leith giving some unique photo opportunities. And one such opportunity was afforded on 24th June when the GT 28,258 cruise ship “Silver Shadow” was docked at the Port of Leith Cruise Liner Terminal. This ship was built in 1999/2000 for Silversea Cruises and was on a cruise from Southampton to Reykjavik in Iceland.

In the first photo we see 258 heading to Newhaven shortly after departure from Ocean Terminal.

Then a few minutes later we see the rear of 258 as it has now left Newhaven and is on its way back to Edinburgh City Centre and then the Airport.

Both Photographs by Roy Calderwood, 24th June 2023
