Police appeal for information after assault on Metrolink

Greater Manchester Police have launched an appeal for information following an incident that happened at approximately 1830 on Friday 22nd September on board a tram as it was close to Failsworth in Oldham. Officers received reports that a man had attacked someone on the tram and caused damage to several of the windows on the tram.

Officers from Greater Manchester Police attended the scene but by the time they arrived the suspect was no longer present. The victim on the tram received minor injuries during the attack.

Inspector Stephen Griffin, from Greater Manchester Police’s Transport Unit, said: “Both staff and passengers should be able to feel safe when working and travelling on public transport. This sort of behaviour will not be tolerated and we are working hard to investigate the reports we have received. If you were on the tram and have not yet spoken to an officer, I would ask you to please contact us with any information you may have.”
