In Pictures: Metrolink 3056 returns to service

Manchester Metrolink 3056 has become the latest tram to return to service after a prolonged period out of use with its first passenger use for almost seven months coming on Thursday 16th October 2025.

3056 had been out of service since it hit the buffers at Bury on 26th March 2025 but has now been fully repaired and has been handed back over to the operational team to allow it to become the latest tram to return to the serviceable ranks.

Whilst 3056 has now returned to service there are still a number of trams which remain out of servcie in the medium-long-term. Its understood that 3005, 3053 (moved to Scotland for repairs July 2025), 3065, 3091, 3127, 3132 and 3138 all remain out of use. Of these 3005 has been out of action the longest, since February 2020, and is at Trafford Depot.

Welcome back 3056! On its second day back in action the tram was allocated to the Bury-Altrincham direct service as seen in this shot. (Photograph by Reece Hughes, 17th October 2025)
