In Pictures: More new adverts in Edinburgh!

The end of June was a busy time for new adverts to be added to trams in Edinburgh. We’ve already reported on a new vinyl wrap advert for 270 (Camera Obscura) and two standard Edinburgh style ads for 261 (Scottish Rugby) and 273 (Heverlee Lager) but that’s not all as both 251 and 264 have also been spotted with new designs adorning their exterior.

Last time we featured 251 on these pages it was carrying an advert for Hello Fresh which had been added to the tram in January 2023. This advert had replaced the second of two designs it had carried for the St James Quarter (June-October 2022 and October 2022-January 2023) and now the tram has come full circle as it is once again advertising St James Quarter – the third advert for this location it has now had in a year!

This advert features a dark blue background and let’s us know that you can “Shop Dine Play Stay” when going to St James Quarter. As per the norm with adverts in Edinburgh there are two full height sections which include images of people seemingly enjoying St James Quarter.

The other new advert has been seen on 264 with Edinburgh Napier University the new sponsor. 264 comes straight off an advert for the Royal Highland Show (which has now taken place) and this red based design for Edinburgh Napier University is the eighth to have been on this tram.

264 is one of those trams which didn’t advertise CR Smith but it has seen adverts for Parabola Edinburgh Fringe Festival (July 2018-August 2019), American Express (September 2019-December 2019), Edinburgh Trams Hogmanay (December 2019-January 2020), Johnnie Walker #JointhePact (January 2020-June 2022), Tennent’s Light (June 2022-December 2022), Jollyes Pet Store (December 2022-January 2023) and Royal Highland Show (May 2023-June 2023).

This advert also continues a tradition of a yearly advert for Edinburgh Napier University with 2021 seeing the institution advertise on 269 and 2022 on 257.

251 is captured at Ingliston with its St James Quarter advert shown. The tram is on the way to Newhaven with the airport control tower seen in the background.

We see 251 departing the stop here and take a closer look at some of the detail of the advert.

Also seen at Ingliston is 264 with its new brightly coloured advert in place. Its on its way to Newhaven.

And more of the advert is seen in this image as the tram heads away from the stop. (All Photographs by Gareth Prior, 1st July 2023)
