Baton of Hope takes a ride on West Midlands Metro

West Midlands Metro have recently played a role in a campaign that aims to save lives across the country by carrying the “Baton of Hope” for a short journey on Monday 3rd July. This is part of a campaign to raise awareness of the issue of suicide and to bring a change in the approach, how we talk about it and how those affected by it are supported.

Suicide is the UK’s biggest killer of men and women under the age of 35 and its hoped that this campaign will raise awareness to prevent this affecting more families in the country.

Sophie Allison, West Midland Metro’s Interim Managing Director, said: “We are delighted to be able to support the Baton of Hope by welcoming it onto our tram as it travels through the city, and we’re wholeheartedly behind the campaign’s aspirations for a zero-suicide society. The baton was carried onboard a tram between Bull Street and Grand Central stops, giving customers and the public a chance to see for themselves a beautifully crafted symbol of the fight against needless suicides.”
