In Pictures: Cameras, cameras everywhere you turn on Blackpool’s Flexity2 trams

Earlier this year we reported on the news that Blackpool’s fleet of Flexity2 trams are being fitted with a new safety system – Obstacle Detection Assistance System (ODAS). This new Alstom system has involved the fitting of cameras in the tram cabs with three just below the destination screen in those trams fitted so far, but now some trams are receiving a fourth camera.

This fourth camera is of a different design and is believed to be for CCTV. This additional camera has so far been seen on 001, 003 and 016 and is fairly central in the cab window in between the other three cameras already in place for the safety system.

One end of 016 is seen here at North Pier. The three ODAS cameras are most prominent but just to the left of the second camera from the right we see the new CCTV camera. (Photograph by Michael Morton, 22nd June 2023)
