More artwork goes on display on the Tyne and Wear Metro

The Tyne and Wear Metro seems to be as much an art gallery as a public transport system with news that another set of artwork can now be viewed on the network. This time it’s a group of young artists from the Baltic whose work is being showcased at various station across the Metro.

The Young Producers are a group of 14-19 year olds who meet every other week at Baltic to plan events, projects and commissions that platform the voices, ideas and concerns of young people and campaign for change. Their work is called “You Heard Us” and is a series of thought provoking prints which are on display at four Metro station.

Nexus have worked alongside Baltic, NE1, the Virgin Money Foundation and Eldon Square to make the exhibition possible. The artwork is displayed at West Jesmond, Hebburn, Cullercoats and Gateshead Interchange.

Huw Lewis, Customer Services Director at Nexus, said: “This is a brilliant and thought provoking arts project which gives young people the chance to showcase their work in the public realm. We have an extensive art on transport programme, with a wide and varied range of works displayed in permanent and temporary installations. I’m really pleased we have been able to carry that on through this project and I hope that people like the displays.”

The group were asked to think about their dream worlds and interviewed each other about them. The posters display quotes from the interview transcripts. The collection of work interrupts this everyday and the mundane, asking you to imagine a brighter and more positive future.
