Around the World in Trams: Santa Cruz 21

We head back to Europe for the next location in “Around the World in Trams” and it’s the sunny climate of Santa Cruz de Tenerife that we’ll be staying in.

The Santa Cruz de Tenerife tramway is a fairly recent addition to the world tramway map with it starting services on 2nd June 2007. It runs for 9.4 miles (15.1 kilometres) on two standard gauge lines, the second of which opened in 2009. Services run from Intercambiador in Santa Cruz de Tenerife to Avenida de la Trinidad in La Laguna and from La Cuesta to Tincer. It’s the only current tramway or railway in the Canary Islands.

Today’s photo has just arrived at the large transport interchange Intercambiador and is about to change destination to La Trinidad (which is the gateway to the historic city of Laguna). The tram is 21 which, like all of the fleet, is an Alstom Citadis 302 model.
