Visiting trolleybus to join East Anglia’s trams

The East Anglia Transport Museum’s upcoming ‘End of Season Gala’ event, taking place on Saturday 14th & Sunday 15th September, has been given a welcome boost following the announcement that the event will feature a special guest in the form of a visiting trolleybus. This event is an expansion of the very popular trolleybus weekends held in previous years, and should see the museum’s other vehicles play a more prominent role.

The star attraction is expected to be a visiting Huddersfield trolleybus which will be coming on loan from the Sandtoft transport centre. This should hopefully be running alongside a similar resident trolleybus hailing from Bournemouth, celebrating 50 years of the National Trolleybus Association. However, for many people a far more exciting prospect is that the museum aims to run every single serviceable tram, trolleybus, bus and train over the course of the two days. This will be the first time that such an intensive service has ever been planned by this museum, and should make for a very impressive event. There will also be a chance to see and ride on the trams and other vehicles after dark on Saturday 14th September, when the site will be open from 1:00pm until 9:00pm, whilst the Sunday’s opening hours are 10:30am to 5:00pm.

There are currently five operational trams at East Anglia, all of which should be used over the weekend. These are Blackpool cars VAMBAC Railcoach 11 and Standard 159, Amsterdam 474, Sheffield 513 and London 1858. Having so many vehicles active at once will doubtless create many excellent photographic opportunities, and will hopefully encourage more people to visit this superb museum.
