Haymarket Sidings becomes a temporary terminus in Edinburgh again

Tuesday 17th January again saw the flexibility of the Edinburgh Trams system when, due to a signalling and traffic lights fault at Haymarket, services were temporarily turned at Haymarket Sidings loop. And why did this show flexibility? There isn’t a full stop located there with just a slightly raised platform provided but despite that it has been used on a few occasions to allow passengers to get as close to onward bus travel as possible.

It was around 0700 that the signalling/traffic light was first reported on the Edinburgh Trams Twitter and immediately it was confirmed that trams would run between the Airport and Edinburgh Sidings only. The Sidings located at Haymarket Yards has a third track which is not used during usual service.

There was ticket acceptance on Lothian Busess and after repairs through running to St Andrew Square was able to resume at approximately 1000.

  • Haymarket Sidings was used as a terminus back in July 2021 as seen in this article The small platform had been installed in 2019.
